Feeling Confused About the Types of Window Films on the Market Today?

Feeling Confused About the Types of Window Films on the Market Today?

3M Crystalline Window Film vs. XPEL Prime XR Plus. Which One to Choose?

VS.

We understand your frustration, so let us narrow the films to 3M Crystalline vs. XPEL Prime XR Plus, as they are both considered the best window films on the market when it comes to automotive window films.

One thing is for sure. You don’t want to end up with that dreadful purple bubbling stuff that ruins the look of your vehicle in less than a year, and it’s impossible to look through that back window with the film all bubbled like that. What an eyesore that would be, not to mention a pain having the film removed.

Your car is your pride and joy. You worked hard to buy it, and you take pride in keeping it clean and shiny, so you don’t mind paying a little extra for a quality film.

You know that installing window film has become necessary because of its benefits. You’re tired of cranking up the air conditioner and rolling down your car windows every time you go somewhere because the heat that built up inside your vehicle while it was parked is unbearable.

And let’s not forget to mention the amount of money you spend every month commuting. It’s alarming how much gas driving around with your windows down and the air conditioner going full blast can consume.

The worst part about not having window film on your car windows, especially in the summertime, is driving leaning forward, so the back of your shirt isn’t soaked in sweat when you arrive at your destination.

And only that morning on the drive to work, you barely missed an object lying in the road because it wasn’t visible until the last second. You never saw it from a distance because the sun blinded your vision. Thank goodness you have fast reflexes, but you feel terrible about scaring the person in the lane next to you.

Now that you’ve realized that installing window film is a wise decision because of its safety benefit, it will also alleviate the problem you are having with the heat buildup inside your car.

3M Crystalline vs. XPEL Prime XR Plus

VS.

ure that one of the films you have considered installing is a 3M Crystalline window film. 3M films are considered one of the best films on the market today when it comes to reducing the heat buildup in your car, or have you considered installing XPEL Prime Series as being a better choice?

Let us Compare the Two Films

3M Crystalline film is constructed of over 200 metal-free nano-layers of polyester. The XPEL PRIME Series, in particular XR PLUS films that we also carry, contains ceramic particles is highly efficient at filtering out the sun’s infrared radiation that causes the heat buildup in your vehicle.

Even though 3M was issued the first sun control window film patent in 1966, their innovative window film products have helped protect you from the sun’s harmful rays for 50 years. XPEL, Inc window film has only been around for 19 years, yet their XR Prime Series is more effective than traditional metalized or dyed films at filtering out the sun’s heat.

Let Us Compare UV Protection.

  • 3M Crystalline window film rejects 99% UV ray’s
  • XPEL window films reject 99% UV ray’s

There appears to be no difference between the two films there. They are both highly effective at blocking those harmful cancer-causing UV sun rays.

Let Us Compare the Amount of Heat Reduction.

  • 3M Crystalline rejects 60% of solar energy.
  • XPEL Prime XR Plus absorbency is 90%.

Think of window film as a filter. It either reflects or absorbs solar energy. So, we have a clear winner at reducing the heat buildup in your vehicle. Well done, XPEL!

Let Us Compare the Two Films at Reducing Sun Glare

  • 3M Crystalline window film offers a 77% glare reduction.
  • XPEL Prime XR Plus provides 95% glare reduction.

XPEL Prime XR Plus does it again at being an essential film over 3M at reducing the heat buildup in your car and reducing glare. Two essential needs when you live in an area with a hot, sunny climate like California.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration accounts for sun glare as a “critical reason” for 16% of environmental-related accidents. That’s approximately 9,000 accidents per year. That’s 25 accidents every day caused by the sun’s glare. That is the second-highest environmental factor after slick roads.

Sun glare does not just endanger drivers in other vehicles on the road. The sun’s glare blinds so much from your field of vision. Small and more significant objects obscured from view. That means glare can cause a driver to be completely unaware of motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians who are nearby.

And just because your eyes were blinded by sun glare when you turned that corner, and you never saw that pedestrian. You can’t go blaming the sun, knowing it can’t argue back in a court of law. Hypothetically speaking, try putting a set of cuffs around those rays.

By law, drivers are at FAULT if they were temporarily blinded by sun glare, otherwise driving NEGLIGENTLY.

Managing Sun Glare

Even if you were driving responsibly, sun glare could cause your accident. Lessening the effect of sun glare is more effortless than paying a doctor’s or mechanic’s bills, so be prepared for the sun:

  • Regularly clean your windshield, including the interior side.
  • Consider tinting your front windows to block excess sunlight.
  • Wear polarized sunglasses to reduce reflected glare from other vehicles.
  • Keep your headlights on to help other blinded drivers see you.
  • Focus on lane markers on the road to keep you oriented.

You Certainly Don’t Want That Nasty Purple Tint on Your Car Windows. So, Let’s Examine the Films Warranty.

One final film detail we need to review before selecting which brand of film to use is the manufacturer warranty for that peace of mind.

Let us Review the Warranty on 3M Crystalline and XPEL Prime XR Plus

Let us start with 3M Crystalline. Sold and installed by professional 3M™ Authorized Dealer Installers, 3M films are durable, designed to last, and virtually maintenance-free. The Crystalline Series is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Otherwise…

Let us examine XPEL Prime XR Plus warranty. This Limited Warranty only applies to professionally installed films in the manner recommended by the XPEL Company. XPEL will cover defects on the PRIME Automotive Window Film, such as discoloration, fading, bubbling, peeling, cracking, and delamination. 3M window film does not warranty their film against fading.

XPEL, Inc. expressly warrants to the owner that, from the date of initial installation, for the life of your vehicle. (The warranty period.)

The installation shop will, at its option, remove or replace the defective film without charge to the customer if the film has not performed as warranted solely due to a manufacturing defect. Subject to the exclusions outlined in this Limited Warranty. The tint shop will not charge a customer for any warranty installation.

This Limited Warranty is transferable only when the new owner of the tinted vehicle provides proof of the original installation date. Transfer of the Limited Warranty only entitles the further owner coverage for the remainder of the initial Warranty Period.

When it comes to 3M Crystalline vs. XPEL Prime XR Plus Window Film.

XPEL not only offers a nationwide lifetime warranty, they give you the peace of mind knowing that if the film fades, but changes color, bubbles, flakes, peels, or delaminates, an authorized XPEL window film tint shop will replace the defective film at no cost to you. Proof of payment and the films warranty will be required,

So, not only does XPEL seem to be the better choice of film when it comes to reducing heat buildup and glare reduction. XPEL™ nano-ceramic particle technology will not interfere with radio, cellular, and Bluetooth signals like traditional metalized films can cause.

For many, the peace of mind alone in choosing XPEL Prime XR Plus over 3M Crystalline window film is worth the price.
